JAPANESE GARDEN

acc. to wiki,The Japanese Garden is a park located in Sector 31 in union territory of Chandigarh. Built in 2014 on 13 acres of Land, by Indian Government, it was inaugurated by Shivraj Patil on 7 November 2014.It consists of water bodies, pagoda towers, water falls, meditation centre, a buddha idol and golden bamboos.This is first ever garden in Chandigarh with Japanese touch. The garden has been developed at a cost of Rs 6 crore.

Pagodatawa (Pagoda Tower)

The Japanese Garden consists of two phases. The Phase-1 was inaugurated on 7 November 2014 and the Phase-2 of the park was opened to public on 4 June 2016. Both the phases of the park are connected by an underground tunnel decorated by beautiful Japanese paintings on both sides. The garden is designed using Japanese architecture and each of the elements in the garden is given a unique Japanese touch.

The Japanese rock garden (Karesansui) or dry landscape garden, often called a zen garden, creates a miniature stylizendlandscape through

carefully composed arrangments of rocks, water features, moss, pruned trees and bushes, and uses gravel or sand

that is raked to represent ripples in water. A Zen garden is usually relatively small, surrounded by a wall, and is

usually meant to be seen while seated from a single viewpoint outside the garden,such as the porch of th HOJO, the

residence of the chief monk of the temple or monastery. Classical Zen gardens were created at temples of zen buddhism in Kyoto during the

Muromachi period. They were intended to imitete the intimate essence of nature, not its actual appearance, and to serve as

The entrance gate to the rock garden in Phase-1 is a traditional gate known as “Torii”. The “torii” is a traditional Japanese gate generally found at the entrance of shrines.
